Captain Campbell’s Cottage has been part of island life for years, long before it became a place to stay. When we bought the house, it belonged to John Campbell, and everyone on Islay still referred to it as “Captain Campbell’s”. The name never really left, so we kept it. The cottage has since been carefully refurbished, with an eye on keeping its character intact while making it a perfect stay for friends, a small family or a romantic break.

Islay is best known for its whisky, and you’re right in the middle of it here. The distilleries path runs nearby, linking Ardbeg, Laphroaig and Lagavulin, all within walking distance if you’re up for it. Ardbeg House and Port Ellen are also a short walk away, with great places to eat and drink serving fresh local produce.

Beyond the distilleries, the island is known for its stunning beaches. North Bay beach is just down the road, and there are several others within easy reach, each with a different feel depending on the weather and time of day. The best way to see Islay is simply to get out and explore, whether that’s along the shore, between villages, or further inland.
